Specialist Jeffery Ryan Whitt, 27, died by suicide Oct. 31, 2015, due to the effects of combat deployment, traumatic brain injuries, blast-wave injuries, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Whitt enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard and served in Afghanistan.
